BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ââ'¬" The No. 33 Nittany Lions (18-5, 4-3) fell 4-0 to the Indiana Hoosiers (6-14, 2-5) on Sunday. Penn State ran into trouble, losing the doubles point. The Nittany Lions lost all momentum there, dropping the three singles matches they played out.
"Playing inside at Indiana is always a challenge," said Assistant Coach Paul Tobin. "Despite the rankings, Indiana gave it to us in doubles and kept the momentum going in singles."
The Nittany Lions lost at first and third doubles against the Hoosiers. Christian Lutschaunig (Richboro, Pa.) and David Kohan (Sydney, Australia) fought to get any points on the board, losing 6-2. At third doubles, Constant De La Bassetiere (Reims, France) and Matt Galush (Cary, N.C.) also dropped their flight 6-2. When loosing the doubles point, the Lions are now 3-4.
No. 110 Leonard Stakhovsky (Kiev, Ukraine) succumbed to No. 60 Sam Monette 6-3, 6-2. Indiana took the big win at first singles and continued the momentum to keep the lead. Ben Lieb (Newtown Square, Pa.) and Tomas Hanzlik (Prague, Czech Republic) also picked up losses at sixth and fourth singles, respectively.
"We had opportunity in the singles but we couldn't get the job done," said Coach Tobin. "We just did not play to our potential today. We will take this week of work and practice to hone our focus for Wisconsin and Minnesota."
Penn State will travel to Wisconsin on Friday at 3 p.m. and Minnesota on Sunday at 1 p.m.
