Penn State will look to extend a trio streaks this week as it challenges a pair of in-state foes in non-conference baseball action, starting with Pitt Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Medlar Field at Lubrano Park and then traveling to face Lafayette Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

The Streaks
Penn State has won its last six games and 10 of its last 12. The stretch started Mar. 19 with a a pair of wins over Niagara, which has led to a Medlar Field at Lubrano Park record nine-game home winning streak. Penn State has also won it's last seven games against Pennsylvania-based opponents.

Dominate the State
Penn State went 5-0 against in-state foes Pitt, Villanova and Bucknell last season, with weather forcing the cancellation of a contest against Lafayette. Later this season, Penn State will host Bucknell April 13 and 19, and visit Pitt (May 11) and Villanova (May 17).

Diamond Lions Improving
At 15-12, Penn State is off to its best start through 27 games since 2011 when it opened the season at 18-9. The most noticeable gain has been in pitching, as the Lions' 3.11 team ERA is approximately two runs lower than last season's and ranks 28th nationally. Penn State is also 5-2 in one run games after going just 1-7 in games decided by one run last year, and already has more wins away from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park than it did all of last season.

Youthful Lineup
Penn State is not afraid to rely on its freshmen, as it has used starting lineups featuring at least three freshmen in all but three games, has had no less than two freshmen starting each game and has had as many as five start on six occasions. Freshman RHP Justin Hagenman leads the team with a 4-1 record and has a rotation-leading 1.96 ERA, while freshman middle infielder Conlin Hughes is just one of three student-athletes to start and play in every game so far this season. Corner infielder Willie Burger leads the team with 19 RBIs. Penn State's three-man weekend rotation has consisted entirely of underclassmen.

Premier Closer
Closer Jack Anderson enters the week ranking fifth in the country with a 0.64 ERA and tied for sixth nationally with a Big Ten leading eight saves. He has tied the Penn State career appearances record with 85 and is threatening the school's single-season and career saves records.
