Penn State Men's Tennis Continues at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational

October 8, 2016 - UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; The Penn State men's tennis team continued play in South Bend, Ind. at the Bobby Bayliss Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Head coach Jeff Zinn's squad competed in all singles matches today.

The morning finished in an even split, the blue and white coming out 2-2. Christian Lakoseljac (King City, Ontario, Canada) faced Wisconsin's Chase Colton and finished 7-5, 6-3. Senior, Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) competed against Brendon Kempin on his home court at Notre Dame and fell 6-1, 6-2. Gabriel Nemeth (Brasilia, Brazil) won for Penn State against Notre Dame's Nathan Griffin, 6-4, 6-2. Henry Gordon (New Braunfels, Tx.) also won in the morning against Indiana's Stefan Lugonjic 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In the afternoon the Lions came out at 2-2, putting the day's record at 4-4. Lakoseljac and Laaribi both faced players from Notre Dame, against Guillermo Cabrera (1-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Daniel Rayl (7-5, 4-6, 6-0) respectively. Both Gordon and Nemeth won their afternoon matches. Gordon spared with Osgar O'hoisin from Wisconsin and won 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. Nemeth competed against Shakeel Manji from Memphis and won in a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 battle.

"We got a huge effort from Gabriel and Henry today sweeping all singles, Gabe has gone undefeated so far in the tournament at 5-0," says associate head coach Paul Tobin. "The weather was a challenge, windy and cool; not what the guys are use to, but necessary. We are 9-7 as a team and hoping to pick up more wins tomorrow."
