UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Nittany Lion men's golf team returns to Florida for a second straight weekend to the Hammock Beach Resort Feb. 10-11 for the Big Ten Match Play Championship in Palm Coast, Fla.

The Tom Watson-designed par 72, 7,183-yard Conservatory Course will play host to the single-elimination match play tournament. 11 of the 14 members in the Big Ten will compete with Illinois, Maryland and Wisconsin not competing. Every team will send out six competitors for each match.

Six golfers will don the Blue and White this weekend including senior Christian Elliott (Port Perry, Ontario), who will be making his fourth appearance in the event. Junior Cole Miller (New Tripoli, Pa.) joins a trio of sophomores consisting of Charles Huntzinger (Duluth, Ga.), JD Hughes (Carlisle, Pa.) and Ryan Dornes (Lancaster, Pa.). Freshman Alec Bard (New Hartford, N.Y.) will also join the lineup for this weekend.

Penn State comes into the tournament the fifth seed determined by Golfstat rankings as of November 11th, 2016, and will begin their match play against the Purdue Boilermakers early Friday morning at 8 a.m. The winner will move on to face the winner of Michigan State vs. Iowa/Indiana, Saturday morning at 7 a.m.

"Always excited to get Big Ten Match Play underway," said head coach Greg Nye. "We are a high seed drawing an even higher seed in Purdue who had a great fall. We need to go out and fight very hard tomorrow."

Last year, the Lions split four matches going 2-2 en route to a fifth place finish with a final round victory over Minnesota. Michigan State won its first ever Big Ten Match Play Championship by defeating Northwestern in the championship round.
