UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. ââ'¬" Penn State traveled to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. for the first dual meets of the season. Head coach Wes Glon's teams competed against Vassar, Sacred Heart, Princeton, Harvard, New York University, the University of Pennsylvania and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (men).
The men's team won four of seven duals. The Lions beat New York University,16-11; Sacred Heart, 21-6; Vassar, 16-11, and New Jersey Institute of Technology, 17-10.
Leading the men's team was junior Anton Piskovatskov (Houston, Texas) and freshman Stefan Nico Popovici (Katy, Texas). Piskovatskov finished 12-8 and Popovici finished 12-9 in the epee.
The women's team went 3-3. The Lions won against New York University, 23-4; Sacred Heart University, 24-3; and Vassar, 25-2.
Leading the women was sophomore Barbara VanBenthuysen (Spring, Texas) and senior Kathryn Charpin (Setauket, N.Y.). VanBenthuysen finished 10-5 in the epee and Charpin finished 8-1 in the saber.
