Coral Gables, Fla.- The Penn State women's golf team returns to Florida to continue their spring season at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami, on Monday-Wednesday, Mar. 5-7.
The tournament will take place at the Biltmore Golf course. The course is a par-72 and plays 6,150 yards. The 54-hole event will play an 18-18-18 format with teams teeing off from holes one and 10 with a 7:30 a.m. tee time each day.
The Nittany Lions' six-girl line-up includes senior Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) and juniors Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.), Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa.) and Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa). Sophomores Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) and Megan McLean (Lebanon, N.J.) will also take the road.
The team looks to improve upon its ninth-place finish at the UCF Challenge in early February. Basso landed on top for the team tying for 16th place with one eagle in the tournament. Waller and Rogowicz followed behind Basso finishing in 24th and 29th place with three-round scores of 222 (plus-six) and 223 (plus-seven) respectively.
Penn State is joined by Big Ten rival Maryland in the 13-team field. Top ranked Oklahoma will also be in attendance along with host, Miami, Barry University, Coastal Carolina, Florida International, Kentucky, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, South Dakota State, South Florida and Virginia Tech.
"We are excited to play at the Hurricane Invitational and compete on a course that most of the team is familiar with," said Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, "Miami will be our toughest competition along with 17th ranked Oklahoma, but we are confident we will be competitive with the top teams in the field."
The Nittany Lions will tee off for the first round Monday morning from hole one beginning at 8:10 a.m. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
There is still time to join the team in their efforts to raise funds and awareness for women's heart health through their campaign, Birdies For The Heart. For the spring, Penn State has 32 birdies with four regular season tournaments remaining on the schedule.
