WGolf Stands in Seventh after First Round

Coral Gables, Fla.- The Penn State women's golf team sits in seventh place, with a score of 300 (plus-12), after the first round of play at the Hurricane Invitational. The team placed ahead of six teams out of the 13-team field.

Top-ranked Oklahoma sits in first place finishing three-under 285 with host Miami following closely behind even to par (288). Tilda Larsson from Barry is tied for individual first with Renate Grimstad of Miami, both shooting four-under 68 in round one.

Junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) leads for the Nittany Lions tied for 20th with a first-round score of just two-over 72. Basso finished the front nine even to par with three birdies. She had a fourth birdie on the back nine leaving her with the most birdies in the first round.

Junior Jackie Rogowicz (Yardley, Pa) and sophomore Maddy Herr (New Hope, Pa.) are both tied for 28th, each shooting 75 (plus-three) in round one. Rogowicz added two birdied to the team tally while Herr had three.

Junior Lauren Waller (Canonsburg, Pa.) and senior Ariana Coyle Diez (Mount Merrion, Dublin, Ireland) are tied for 37th and 44th, respectively, among the 75 players in the tournament. Waller shot a 76 (plus-four) and Diez shot just five-over 77.

Sophomore Megan McLean completed the front nine only one over par (37). She achieved a score of 81 (plus-nine) in the first round.

The Nittany Lions continue play tomorrow morning teeing off from hole one beginning at 8:50 a.m. Live Scoring is available at Golfstat.com.

There is still time to join the team in their efforts to raise funds and awareness for women's heart health through their campaign, Birdies For The Heart. In the first round of the Hurricane Invitational, Penn State has tallied 13 birdies.
