Meet the Freshmen: Maddie Myers

July 6, 2018

With the 2018 Penn State women's soccer season slowly approaching, GoPSUsports.com is asking each member of the 2018 signing class a few questions in order to get to know them better. We are continuing the series with midfielder Maddie Myers.

A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Myers attended Forest Hills Northern High School and played club soccer for the Michigan Hawks. While at Penn State, Myers plans to major in international business and Spanish.

GoPSU: Your club team won the ECNL national title in 2014 & 2017, what was that experience like?

MM: Winning my two national championships have been the best and most amazing experiences of my life thus far. Working so hard and finally achieving something as rewarding as being a part of the best team in the country twice is a very surreal feeling. Holding a trophy as prestigious as that one is in youth soccer was amazing and I can't wait to hopefully hold another one at the college level.

GoPSU: You played club soccer, ran track, and were a three-year starter at point guard, how has playing three sports shaped you as an athlete?

MM: Being a multi-sport athlete throughout my entire life has shaped me as an athlete in many different ways. It has taught me how to endure adversity and to never give up. It has also taught me how to be versatile. When it comes to sports I just want to be in the game so whether I am playing center back or center forward I am very good at adapting and will always give my best effort.

GoPSU: You plan to major in international business and Spanish, why did you pick that combo?

MM: I chose to double major in Spanish and international business because I am bilingual and would love to use both Spanish and English in my future career. When it comes to the business side I have always been interested in working abroad and love the idea of being able to collaborate with others while being able to use my language. My dream job is being an international representative for a major company like Nike in a Latin country.

GoPSU: When did you know that you were going to attend Penn State?

MM: I knew I was going to attend Penn State right after I went on my first visit. When I was going through the recruiting process I would always find myself comparing other schools back to PSU. This university just had the entire package for me I loved everything about it.

GoPSU: What is one thing fans should know about Maddie Myers?

MM: One thing fans should know about me is that I am so thankful for this opportunity and for everyone who has helped me get to this point. I could not be here today without the help of my family, friends, coaches and teammates and I can't wait to continue to grow as a player and person these next years here at Penn State.
