Mission Statement
The Penn State strength and conditioning department is committed to providing the highest level of athletic preparation for all varsity student-athletes. Our primary goal is to maximize the potential of each individual student-athlete throughout their college career. From the All-American to the Run-On, every student-athlete matters and will be developed to their greatest athletic potential.
Each of our 31 varsity teams receives comprehensive support and effort from the strength and conditioning staff during their designated training times and beyond. Strength and conditioning works closely with each head coach to implement the most effective year-round training program for each athletic team. Through the guidance of strength coaches, student-athletes develop skills such as discipline, perseverance, goal-setting, teamwork, mental toughness and work ethic. These instill habits that will lead student-athletes to enhanced lives. The cornerstones of Penn State strength and conditioning are intensity, consistency and development.
Penn State Strength and Conditioning is committed to the idea of sound mind, sound body. We honor the values and visions of the University, and support the ideals of the Big Ten conference and the NCAA governing body.
Training Philosophy
- We run a full-service program focusing on strength, power, speed, agility, conditioning, flexibility, recovery, nutrition, as well as injury prevention and management
- Athletes are given `training maxes' and work off certain percentages of these maxes each week
- All programs are periodized with training percentages varying each week so that athletes will reach their goals within each given cycle
- All programs are periodized with training percentages varying each week so that athletes will reach their goals within each given cycle
- Each athletes progress will be tracked to measure progress
- Strength programs are created before each training cycle and are directed so that the athlete can clearly understand and follow the exercises for each training session
- Strength, speed, agility and conditioning are all tailored to the needs of each sport and each student athlete
- Flexibility, recovery, nutrition and injury prevention are incorporated into all team training programs.
