JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Rising senior golf student-athlete JD Hughes finished the 105th Pennsylvania Amateur in a tie for 10th place with a 1-over 211 total when the three-round event concluded Wednesday. The event, delayed at times by inclement weather during the three-day event July 30-Aug. 1, was held at Sunnehanna Country Club.
Hughes fired a 66 for his lowest round, and the tournament's second-lowest first-round total on Monday, with six birdies on the day. The Carlisle, Pennsylvania, product added two more birdies on the back nine Tuesday to settle in among the leaders, but a 74 in the final round pushed him into a tie for 10th place.
Penn State rising senior Ryan Dornes carded a 69 in the final round on Wednesday to finish the tournament in a tie for 18th. From Lancaster, Pa., Dornes recorded three birdies in each of his second and third rounds to finish at 4-over for the event (73-72-69-214).
Incoming Nittany Lion freshman Hunter Bruce recorded a 1-under 69 in the second round and was 2-over in the final round to finish in a tie for 29th (75-69-72-216).
Penn State alumni Cody Cox (71-74-70-215) and Anthony DeGol (70-71-74=215) tied for 24th place.
