This morning our day began with a trip to Toledo, the former capital of medieval Spain. We spent about three hours in the town located one hour from Madrid.

After taking a panoramic look from afar at the city, we first stopped at a metal making factory where swords and jewelry are made. A few of our travel party made some sword purchases, so watch out Happy Valley! We next visited the cathedral at the center of the city, which is the second-largest church in Spain. After some free time and lunch in Toledo, it was time to head back to Madrid to gear up for game one of the trip against CD CREF Madrid, a Spanish All-Star team.

What can I say....40 minutes of SPEED! The Lady Lions' pace was a huge factor in the 108-81 victory tonight. Our focus going into the game was to do the things we worked on in practice and I think we accomplished our goal of controlling the tempo.

In the first half, we got off to a big lead capitalizing off turnovers with open three-point shots and layups. Alisia Smith did a tremendous job, sparking our transition attack by sprinting the middle of the floor for easy lay-ups. Smith put pressure on our opponents with her quickness and our guards attacked from the perimeter. Teniya Page got off to an early start with a few "catch-and-shoot" three-point shots and transition layups.

The second half was an all-out assault from all the Lady Lions with big three-point shots from Leah Knizner, Kamaria McDaniel, Kayleigh Semion, and Amari Carter. Our guards did a terrific job attacking off the dribble for drive and kick opportunities. During a timeout, Coach Washington coached the Lady Lions up on having more of a defensive presence and continuing to focus on pace. The Lady Lions responded with a 10-0 run which helped spread the lead.

I'm super excited about our pace, attacking mentality, and POST PRESENCE! Lol! Teniya looked refreshed and dangerous! Amari pushed the ball and attacked the entire game. I also enjoyed coaching our freshman because they are extremely coachable and talented. Next stop is Valencia...Another FAST 40 minutes coming your way!!
