Men's Swimming Dominates Bloomsburg With Multiple 1-2-3 Sweeps

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Penn State men's swimming team cruised past Bloomsburg, 120.5 - 73.5, Friday evening in Nelson Field House Pool. The Nittany Lions won the first eight events before swimming the remaining three as exhibitions.

"We appreciate Bloomsburg for having us," said Penn State head coach Tim Murphy. "It was a good meet to get us started and get our focus back on racing. It gave us an idea where we are and what is showing up in the races."

Top Swims
Junior Hayden Harlow clinched two career-best times with wins in the 1000 free (9:30.40) and the 100 fly (49.64). Along with Harlow, teammate Eben Krigger also led the team with multiple top-two finishes, placing first in the 200 free (1:41.20), and second in the 100 free (47.00).
 
The two senior captains, Liam Veregin and Austin Wilson both secured a win for the Nittany Lions; Veregin in the 100 free with a time of 46.55, and Wilson in the 100 back with 51.26.
 
Sophomore William Lulek  and junior Gabe Castano each added points for the Nittany Lions this evening after clinching first in their respective events with Lulek winning the 200 IM (1:53.37) and Castano in the 50 free (20.44).
 
Jacob Deckman posted the fastest time in the 500 free (4:38.53) and Daniel Raisanen did the same in the 100 breast (57.26).
 
Other notable second-place finishes included; Sam Rennard placing second in the 1000 Free (9:36.50), William Roberson in the 200 free (1:42.11), Michael Daly in the 200 IM (1:53.40), Zac Zwijacz in the 100 Fly (49.74), and newcomer Lachlan Byrne in the 100 back (51.33).
 
Nittany Lion Relays
The team of Veregin, Castano, Roberson, and Brad Johnson finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:31.66. Right behind them, teammates Wilson, Daniel Raisanen, Juliusz Gosieniecki, and Matthew DiNunzio placed second with 1:31.67.
