Women’s Swimming and Diving Take Loss to Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va.. – The Penn State women's swimming & diving team lost to Virginia Tech on Saturday, 213-83. This was the program's first meet after winter training in December and January.
 
Penn State was led by senior Olivia Jack who won the 100 breast. Seniors Madison Murtagh and Marie Schobel and sophomores Mary Brinker and Morgan Rinn placed second in their individual events. 
 
Top Swims
Jack won the 100 breast by over a second (1:01.77) as graduate student Maddie Cooke placed a close third, being out-touched by one hundredth of a second (1:03.28).
 
Murtagh finished second in the 1000 (10:08.86) and third in the 500 free (4:58.07). 
 
Schobel placed second in both backstroke events, finishing the 100 in 53.21 and the 200 in 1:55.86.
 
Brinker swam the 50 free for second in 23.19 and Rinn touched in 4:22.89 for second in the 400 IM.  
 
Top Dives 
Junior Wei Wei led Penn State on the boards, placing fourth in the 1-Meter dive (226.20)
 
Nittany Lions Relays
In the first event of the day the women took second and third. Schobel, Cooke, junior Emma Harvey, and sophomore Cat Stanford led the Nittany Lions in the 200 medley with 1:38.93 and freshman Molly Carson, Jack, freshman Maura Fluehr and junior Abigail Amdor finished in 1:40.48.
 
And at its conclusion the team of Stanford, Brinker, Amdor and Cooke placed second in the 200 free relay (1:31.90).

The Nittany Lions return home to McCoy Natatorium for their senior meet against Villanova Friday at 5pm.
