UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State women's ice hockey freshman forward Tessa Janecke was named to 2023 Hockey Commissioners Association National Women's Rookie of the Year watch list as announced by the association on Thursday.
The conference offices come up with this initial "Watch List" of rookies from across division one programs. A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, and media — will ultimately choose the winner who will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.
Janecke is one of 28 women's ice hockey rookies nationally who were named to the list and one of two from College Hockey America. This is the first year Janecke has been named to the list. She is the second Nittany Lion this season to be named to an HCA watch list.
This season, the Orangeville, Ill. native has posted 17 goals and 17 assists for a total of 34 points. She also has tallied 354 faceoff wins and a faceoff win percentage of 63.3%. Janecke leads all the nations rookies in points.
Janecke and the rest of the Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, Feb. 3 when they travel to face Syracuse. Puck-drop is set for 6 p.m.
