Nittany Lions in the NFL: Week 7

Washington’s punt return touchdown, Barkley’s big day highlight Week 7 action

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – A total of 47 Penn State Football alumni are populating the rosters of 24 National Football League organizations. The Nittany Lions annually rank among the top 20 programs nationally in producing players in the NFL.

Saquon Barkley recorded the second-highest single-game rushing yardage total of his career to help the Eagles take down the Giants on Sunday. He averaged 10.4 yards per carry, going for 176 yards and a touchdown on 17 totes. Before suffering a significant injury late in the game Monday night, Chris Godwin posted seven catches for 65 yards. When he went down, Godwin was the league leader in yards after catch, and was top three in the NFL in both receiving yards and receiving yards per game.

The flashiest play of Week 7 for former Nittany Lions came in London on Sunday morning when Parker Washington returned a punt 96 yards to the end zone to increase Jacksonville’s lead over New England in the second quarter.

Defensively, veteran DaQuan Jones recorded his second sack in as many weeks in Buffalo’s win over Tennesse. Odafe Oweh also posted a sack for Baltimore, increasing his season total to 4.5. Oweh is now just a half-sack off of his career high in the category with ten games still remaining on the Ravens’ schedule. Cardinals punter Blake Gillikin continued his strong season on Monday night in the Cardinals’ victory over the Chargers. Gillikin sits at tenth in the NFL with a 42.9 net punting average mark.
