Women’s Tennis’ Dorner and Uchijima Receive Opponent for NCAA Doubles Championship

The pair qualified by winning the doubles final at the ITA Northeast Regional

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The junior tandem of Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima will take on Colorado’s Anya Nelson and Ema Bubalo in the Round of 32 at the NCAA Doubles Championship. The pair will begin competition on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. All matches for the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships will be broadcast on ESPN+. 

Dorner and Uchijima, ranked as the No. 49 doubles team by ITA, earned a spot at the tournament by winning the ITA Northeast Regional doubles final on Oct. 15. They became the program’s first NCAA qualifier and regional winner since 2012.  

The tandem went a perfect 6-0 at the ITA Northeast Regional doubles tournament. They defeated Penn’s Eileen Wang and Sabine Rutlauka (1-6, 6-4, 10-7) in the championship. Outside of the final round, Dorner and Uchijima triumphed over Seton Hall’s Rachel Benoualid and Isabelle May (8-3), Fordham’s Lilianna Chitambar and Lorraine Bergmann (8-4), Princeton’s Pearlie Zhang and Isabella Chhiv (8-1) and Penn’s Gavriella Smith and Saige Roshkoff (8-0) and Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski (6-2, 6-3).  

On the season, the pair boasts a 10-1 record in doubles play. Highlights include ranked victories over Duke’s No. 61 Shavit Kimchi and Ellie Coleman (6-3) at the UNC Kitty Harrison Invitational and Arkansas’ No. 51 Grace O’Donnell and Anet Koskel (6-1, 7-5) at the ITA All-American Championships.
