Men's Tennis Defeats Quinnipiac, Bucknell in Sunday Doubleheader

The Nittany Lions defeat Quinnipiac 6-1, Bucknell 5-2

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team swept the day, winning both of its matches in its Sunday doubleheader against Quinnipiac, 6-1, and Bucknell, 5-2.

 

QUINNIPIAC 

Doubles 

Duo Reiya Hattori and Marcus Schoeman took on Daniel Velek and Alex Yang on court two, quickly claiming the 6-1 win. 

Partnering up at the first spot, Charl Morgan and David Lindsay played a strong match, defeating Carlos Braun Simo and James Lorenzetti 6-4 and claiming the doubles point for Penn State. 

At third doubles Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio faced Finn Burridge and Elias Hoxha. The Nittany Lions were down 5-4 when the match went unfinished. 

 

Singles 

Penn State clinched the match against Quinnipiac at 4-0, allowing for younger players to compete in the lineup. 

At the top spot, Morgan played an impressive match, defeating Velek 6-2, 6-1. 

Playing in at second singles, Sam Bossem claimed the 6-2, 6-2 victory against Burridge. 

Hattori played a strong match on court three, taking the 6-4, 6-3 win over Braun Simo. 

At the fourth spot, Schoeman defeated his opponent, Hoxha, 6-3, 6-1. 

On court six, Alex Sterin stepped up to take on Carl Sjoholm, defeating him in a strong 6-2, 7-5 match. 

Shri Murugesan took court five against Lorenzetti, but their match went unfinished. 

 

 

BUCKNELL 

Doubles 

Hattori and Schoeman win 6-1 for the third time this weekend, defeating Robinson and Alapi on court three. 

Playing at the first court, Morgan and Lindsay defeated Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald 6-2, claiming the doubles point for the Nittany Lions. 

Bossem and Byers partnered together to take on Adam Stavrakas and Oscar Bain, but their match went unfinished at a tied score of 5-5. 

 

Singles 

Bossem played at third singles, quickly defeating Bain in a 6-0, 6-2 match. 

On the fourth court, Schoeman battled it out against Kilmer, winning the match 6-0, 6-4. 

Hattori faced McDonald on Court 5, claiming the 6-2, 6-1 victory and clinching the match for the Nittany Lions. 

On Court 6, Lindsay played a strong match, defeating Alapi 6-3, 7-5.

 

On Court 1, Byers battled through three sets, but ultimately fell 6-1, 6(5)-7, 6-4 to Tahirovic. Taking the second spot, Morgan fought tough, but dropped his match 2-6, 7-6(3), 6-2 to Stavrakas 

 

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions will hit the road early this season to face Yale on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 9:30a.m. and Buffalo on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 12:30p.m. Both matches will be hosted in New Haven, Conn.
