Women’s Tennis Concludes Non-Conference Play at Princeton

The Nittany Lions are coming off a successful weekend in Las Vegas that saw them win matches against Colorado and UNLV

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (8-1) travels to Princeton (6-3) for its final non-conference match of the 2025 campaign. The contest is slated to begin at 10 a.m. as the Nittany Lions look to extend their winning streak to six. 

Penn State is ranked No. 36 in the latest ITA rankings. It is the team’s best mark since Apr. 2, 2013, when the Nittany Lions were ranked No. 33.  

In Case You Missed it 

  • Penn State took down Colorado, 4-3, on Saturday, Feb. 22 and UNLV by the same score the next day.  
  • Freshman Patricia Grigoras paired with sophomore Jordina Cegarra to pick up a 6-3 doubles win against Colorado’s Anya Nelson and Rixt Van Der Werff. Grigoras added court three singles wins over CU’s Betina Kotac (4-6, 6-0, 6-2) and UNLV’s Coco Zhao (7-6, 6-4). 
  • Freshman Jelena Vico picked up two singles victories on court four. She defeated Colorado’s Van Der Werff 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 and UNLV’s Nikol Mircheva 6-1, 6-3. Her triumph over Van Der Werff clinched the match for the Nittany Lions. 
  • Junior Maiko Uchijima sealed the win for the Blue and White against UNLV when she earned a thrilling 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Veronika Kliuch. 
  • Junior Olivia Dorner defeated Colorado’s Mila Stanojevic 6-3, 7-6 on court one. 
  • Freshman Maria Daciana Ciubotaru won a three-set match on court six against Colorado’s Lera Alexin 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. 
  • Cegarra tallied a 6-4, 6-2 singles victory over UNLV’s Hanna Vinahradava on court six. 

Scouting Report 

  • Princeton comes in at 6-3 for the season and ranked No. 48 in the ITA rankings. 
  • The Tigers are coming off a defeat at the hands of Old Dominion in a 4-1 decision on Sunday, Feb. 23. Notably, Penn State beat the Monarchs 4-3 on Jan. 19. 
  • Alice Ferlito plays on court one singles for Princeton. She holds a 4-1 record on the season. 
  • No. 77 Dorner and Uchijima defeated the Princeton team of Pearlie Zhang and Bella Chhiv 8-1 at ITA Regionals in the fall. Zhang and Chhiv are 0-3 on court one in the spring. 
  • Also at ITA Regionals, Grigoras topped Zhang 6-3, 6-3 in the singles tournament. Zhang is 5-2 for the Tigers this season. 

Series History 

  • Princeton holds the all-time series lead 20-4. 
  • The teams met a season ago in Happy Valley with the Tigers taking the match 4-2. 
  • The Nittany Lions last win in the series came in 2006.
