Penn State Track and Field Completes Day One of Larry Ellis Invitational

Men’s and women’s track teams record three top-10 program mark

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Penn State men’s and women’s track and field teams set three top-10 marks in program history and 10 personal-best marks as the Nittany Lions completed day one of Princeton’s Larry Ellis Invitational Friday. 

TOP PERFORMANCES  

Brendan Flynn won the men’s 5,000-meter race after clocking in at 14:37.50.  

Both the men’s and women’s teams dominated in the 1500-meter race., Ada Rand finished in second place at a time of 4:15.24 to set the No. 7 spot on the all-time program list. Lea Hatcher finished right behind Rand in 4:16.26 to take the No. 8 spot on the all-time list. On the men’s side, Nick Sloff finished the race in third, clocking in at 3:41.13 to set the No. 7 time on the all-time Penn State list.  

A trio of Nittany Lions set new PRs in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase. Justin Healey finished in third (8:52.42), Ryan Watson finished in fourth (8:53.81) and Logan Strawser finished 11th (9:04.79).  

Joe White placed fifth in the men’s long jump, setting a new PR of 7.36 (24-1 ¾).  

TRACK EVENTS 

Women’s 800-meter Elite 

Women’s 1500-meter  

  • Rand finished in second place at 4:15.24 to take the No. 7 spot all-time 
  • Hatcher finished in third place finished in 4:16.26 to take the No. 8 spot all-time 

Women’s 5000-meter Unseeded 

  • Carolyn Tarpley set a PR of 17:40.12 after finishing in seventh place  

Women’s 5000-meter Seeded 

Men’s 800-meter Elite 

Men’s Mike Brady 1500-Elite  

  • Sloff finished in third place to set a new PR of 3:41.13 to take the No. 7 spot all-time 

Men’s 1500-meter  

Men’s 3000-meter Steeplechase 

  • Healey finished in third at 8:52.42 to set a new PR 
  • Watson finished in fourth at 8:53.81 to set a new PR 
  • Strawser finished in 11th place at 9:04.79 to set a new PR  

Men’s 5000-meter Unseeded 

  • Flynn won the 5000-meter race at 14:37.50  

FIELD EVENT SUMMARY   

Women’s Hammer Throw 

  • Gabi Deglau finished in fourth place to set a new PR of 56.59m (185-8) 

Women’s Long Jump 

  • Gabriella Recce recorded a 5.80m (19-0 ½) jump to finish in eighth   

Men’s Long Jump  

  • White set a new PR of 7.36 (24-1 ¾) after placing fifth
