UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women’s tennis team is back in action at the Martha Thorn Invitational from Oct. 3-5 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Jordina Cegarra, Maria Daciana Ciubotaru, Ansley Cox and Maiko Uchijima will compete for the Blue & White at the event hosted by West Virginia University.
On Friday and Saturday, the action will begin at 11 a.m. before starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday to conclude the weekend.
Penn State returns to action after a weekend away from fall competition. Six Nittany Lions competed at ITA All-Americans with five of them picking up a victory across singles and doubles play.
In singles action, Patricia Grigoras defeated UCLA’s Bianca Fernandez, 6-2, 6-4, and Florida State’s MaryBoyce Deatherage, 6-4, 7-5. Maelie Monfils earned a three-set victory over Vanderbilt’s Sonya Macavei, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Monfils holds a 3-2 singles record this fall after picking up two wins at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
On the doubles side, Penn State picked up two wins in the consolation round of prequalifying. Olivia Dorner paired with Monfils to get a ranked win over Kansas’ No. 85 Meg McCarty and Sandugash Kenzhibayeva, 6-4, 6-4. Uchijima and Cegarra teamed up for a 6-3, 4-6, 10-2 triumph over Tulane’s Leigh Van Zyl and Campbell Ricci.
Earlier this fall at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic, Brianna Baldi swept through her singles flight with a perfect 3-0 record. She paired with Grigoras for two doubles triumphs at the event as well.
Head Coach Alexandra McIntyre enters her seventh season leading the program in 2025-26 following her winningest season at the helm a season ago. The team’s 14 wins were the most since the 2012-13 season.
