UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women’s tennis team continues its homestand with a pair of Ivy League opponents this weekend. The Nittany Lions (8-1, 0-1 Big Ten) will take on Princeton (9-1, 0-0 Ivy League) at noon on Saturday then play No. 25 Yale (8-1, 0-0 Ivy League) at 10 a.m. on Sunday.  

The weekend slate marks the penultimate matches of nonconference play with PSU set to travel to Atlanta for a match against Georgia Tech on March 22 to close out interleague play. 

The Blue & White entered the ITA rankings at No. 66 on Tuesday. Penn State is off to an 8-1 start for the second consecutive season. The Nittany Lions opened 2025 with an 11-1 record.

 

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT 

  • Penn State had an undefeated weekend as the Blue & White took down James Madison, 4-0, and Marshall, 5-2. 
  • Maelie Monfils secured three total wins, two singles and one doubles, all on court one. In doubles, she paired with Olivia Dorner for a 6-2 win against JMU’s Brooklynn Hoffman and Sophie Williams. The junior defeated the Dukes’ Daria Munteau, 6-3, 6-3, and Marshall’s Johanna Strom, 7-5, 6-3, in singles play to reach four court one victories in 2026. 
  • Brianna Baldi joined Monfils as the other multi-time singles winner with two court four victories in straight sets. The sophomore is up to a four-match winning streak in singles. 
  • The doubles tandem of Patricia Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima went 2-0 as they secured two court two victories, both by 6-2 margins. Grigoras was able to add a singles win against James Madison’s Hoffman, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. 
  • Dorner, playing on court five, and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru, competing at the six spot, added singles wins over the Thundering Herd while the tandem of Jordina Cegarra and Ansley Cox improved to 4-0 in dual matches with a court three doubles victory. 

ACROSS THE NET 

PRINCETON 

  • The Tigers were ranked No. 41 in the latest ITA poll on Tuesday and boast a 9-1 start to the spring season. Their only defeat came at the hands of Yale in a 4-1 result at the ECAC Indoor Championships. 
  • The team has defeated the Big Ten’s Rutgers, 5-2, and Michigan State, 4-1, this season. They also took down a common opponent with Penn State in James Madison, 4-3. The Nittany Lions defeated the Dukes, 4-0, on February 20. The Tigers are coming off a weekend sweep over FIU and FAU, both by 4-1 margins. 
  • Princeton has a ranked doubles pair in No. 90 Isabella Chhiv and Eva Elbaz. The tandem is 6-0 during the 2025-26 season. 
  • Alice Ferlito has only dropped one match on court one this season. She was a First Team All-Ivy League selection in singles a season ago. 

YALE 

  • Yale enter the weekend ranked No. 25 in the ITA poll, having won seven straight contests en route to an 8-1 start.  
  • The Bulldogs will face Rutgers on Friday before heading to Happy Valley for Sunday’s dual. The Bulldogs have already defeated Big Ten member Purdue in a 4-1 result earlier in the year. Yale’s most recent match was a 4-0 sweep against St. John’s. 
  • The team defeated Princeton, Brown and Penn by a combined score of 12-1 to win the ECAC Indoor Championships. They were also participants in ITA Kickoff Weekend. They fell to then No. 9 Stanford, 4-2, before besting Memphis, 4-1, in consolation play. 
  • Orly Ogilvy and Lenna Friedman are ranked No. 11 in the country according to the most ITA doubles rankings. The duo is 18-2 in the 2025-26 campaign. Ogilvy competes at the top court in singles. 

SERIES HISTORY 

PRINCETON 

  • Penn State and Princeton will meet for the 26th time on Saturday with the Tigers owning a 20-5 lead in the series. The series is one of the oldest for the Blue & White with the first meeting in 1975. 
  • The Nittany Lions were able to secure a dramatic win over Princeton a season ago as they went on the road to defeat the Tigers, 4-2. Ciubotaru clinched the match in a three-set match on court six. 

YALE 

  • Penn State will face Yale for the ninth time since the series began in 1981. The Bulldogs own a 6-2 advantage, including a 5-2 win last year in New Haven, Connecticut. 
  • The Nittany Lions last hosted Yale in 2024, falling in a competitive 4-3 decision. Dorner secured a court one doubles win and a court two singles victory as a sophomore.
