WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Penn State women’s tennis secured a road win with a 4-0 victory at Purdue on Sunday. The sweep at Schwartz Tennis Center was PSU’s first sweep and first road win in Big Ten action this season.
The Nittany Lions improved to 13-9 (4-7 Big Ten) while the Boilermakers dropped to 7-12 (3-8 Big Ten).
Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfils earned their second ranked win is as many days with a victory against No. 55 Ida Clement and Ece Gencer. They now have six ranked wins in nine opportunities during the 2025-26 campaign, including five this spring.
On the singles side, Patricia Grigoras, Brianna Baldi and Maria Daciana Ciubotaru earned victories to clinch the win for the Blue & White. It was Ciubotaru’s seventh time clinching a victory, including the last six Penn State triumphs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Penn State earned the doubles point with two commanding victories on courts one and two. Dorner and Monfils secured their second ranked win of the weekend with a dominant display on court one. The duo downed No. 55 Clement and Gencer, 6-1.
Grigoras and Maiko Uchijima clinched the point for PSU with a triumph on court two. They picked up their ninth doubles win of the spring, fourth in Big Ten play, with a 6-2 win over Ashlie Wilson and Kathryn Wilson. Baldi and Ciubotaru had their court three doubles match against Kayal Gownder and Fatima Gutierrez go unfinished with a 3-3 score.
Grigoras started things off in singles with a resounding victory. The sophomore took down Clement, 6-1, 6-1, on court two for her sixth Big Ten singles win. She has four of her last five singles matches.
Baldi was the next to finish on court six. The sophomore won her first set, 6-4, before gutting out a tiebreak game in the second set for a final score of 6-4, 7-6 against Emmi Kolyszko.
Shortly after Baldi’s triumph, Ciubotaru clinched a Blue & White victory for the seventh time this season. The sophomore bested Kathryn Wilson, 7-5, 6-4, at the five spot and has now clinched the last six Penn State wins.
The other three singles matches were heading to third sets as they went unfinished. On court one, Monfils and Gencer were stopped with a score of 6-7, 6-3. Uchijima and Gutierrez had their contest go unfinished at 6-2, 5-7. Dorner faced Gownder on court four with the match abandoned at 6-1, 6-7.
