TEAMMATES FOR LIFE

Few universities in the world can boast an athletic tradition as strong and proud as Penn State. Our advancement of women’s sports goes back more than half a century to the first varsity competition in 1964. And in 1972, when Title IX—the landmark legislation outlawing sex-based discrimination in educational programs and activities that receive federal funding—prompted many universities to create women’s sports programs for the first time, Penn State already had nine varsity women’s teams.

Our dedication to driving equity in athletics and providing our student-athletes with the best experience possible continues today. Teammates For Life is a Penn State Women’s Athletics initiative fueled by a powerful mission: to support the success of incoming, current, and alumnae Penn State women’s sports athletes by celebrating, elevating, and engaging decades of successful Penn State women. Teammates for Life will foster connections between current student-athletes and the global network of athletics alumnae, fostering lasting relationships and paving the way for professional success.
