UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.; - After spending the last two weekends on the road, the Penn State women's tennis team (1-2) is back on home turf hosting the No. 53 Thundering Herd of Marshall and the No. 73 Bulldogs of Yale. Penn State's match with Marshall will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by an 11 a.m. start on Sunday against Yale.
The Nittany Lions are coming off a tough loss to then No. 22 Wake Forest. Senior Katelyn BeVard (McLean, Va.) and sophomore Lauren McCarthy (Danbury, Conn.) put in a notable performance in doubles but fell, 9-7. Freshman Denisa Zobeideh (Weston, Fla.) put in a strong three-set fight in singles but lost to Katarina Reveche (7-5, 4-6, 10-7). On Jan. 27, the Nittany Lions lost to then No. 47 Denver. Junior Dorothy Dohanics (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned wins in both singles and doubles for Penn State.
Head coach Dawna Prevette is glad to be back at home after spending the last two weekends traveling to Colorado and North Carolina.
"We are looking forward to playing again," said Prevette. "We have worked hard this week and Marshall is a great team. Yale will be a nice challenge for our team and I know the ladies are excited to play at home again this weekend."
Following this weekend's matches, the Nittany Lions will head back out on the road for back-to-back matches to begin Big Ten play. Up first will be No. 3 Northwestern on Saturday, Feb. 16, followed by No. 75 Wisconsin on Sunday, Feb. 17. Both matches will begin at 11 a.m.
