Penn State Fencers Fair Well at December NAC

Dec. 10, 2012

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Members of the Penn State men's and women's fencing team traveled to Milwaukee this past weekend to compete in the four day North American Cup Tournament. This month's NAC had less events for collegiate fencers than those of the previous tournaments, but the Nittany Lions still found success.

The tournament kicked off on Friday with the Division 1 Men's Foil competition. Senior Olympian Miles Chamley-Watson had a stellar performance and placed second in the event. Teammate David Willette finished right behind and tied for third place. Freshman Nobuo Bravo continued his outstanding season by placing fifth. Junior Jeremy Goldstein placed seventeenth.

The Nittany Lions were also represented well in the Division 1 Men's Saber competition. Team captain Adrian Bak's strong performance allowed him to place seventh in the event. Kaito Streets continued his impressive freshman campaign and finished in fifteenth place. Also worth noting is that the competition was won by Penn State alumnus and reigning NCAA Champion Aleksander Ochocki.

Only a few members of the Penn State women's team competed in the tournament, but the women still faired well. Freshman Jessica O'Neill-Lyublinsky placed eighth out of 113 competitors in the Division 1 Women's Epee event. This is a drastic improvement from her forty-third place finish in last month's tournament. Junior Nicole Glon placed twenty-fourth in the Division 1 Women's Saber competition.

The Nittany Lions now have a large break in action, but will resume competition after the holidays when they host an NCAA event. They will face Temple, Duke, Penn, North Carolina, Drew, Columbia, and Haverford on Saturday January 12 in the White Building.
