Final Results
ST. LOUIS - The Nittany Lion duo of Sabrina Garcia (Etters, Pa.) and Briannah Tsang (Vancouver, British Columbia) closed out the 2017 season for the Penn State women's gymnastics team Friday night in the second session of the 2017 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships at the Chaifetz Arena.
"Tonight was a fantastic meet for both Briannah and Sabrina," interim co-head coach Kera Molinaro said. "We are so proud of the way they represented Penn State. They went out and hit some amazing routines. A highlight for me was Sabrina's beam routine - nearly flawless - and Briannah rocking her floor routine in the last spot of the night. We couldn't be more pleased with their performances tonight."
"Both Sabrina and Briannah showed great composure and poise tonight," interim co-head coach Josh Nilson said. "They both learned what the NCAA Championships are all about. They will be instrumental in leading the team to Nationals next year. We couldn't be more proud of how they represented themselves, our team, and Penn State University!"
The NCAA Championship scoring format includes six judges with the highest score and the lowest score both being dropped and the four remaining scores are averaged.
In the all-around, Tsang placed 30th with a 39.1000, while Garcia finished 39th with a 38.6000.
The 2017 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships featured Garcia making her NCAA Championships debut, while Tsang competed at the NCAA Championships for the second-straight season after posting a 38th-place finish on the floor exercise last year.
Garcia, a sophomore, started the night on the balance beam followed by her first bye, then the floor exercise, vault, her second bye and she ended the night on the uneven bars.
For Garcia, she tied for 41st on the balance beam (9.8500) and then tied for 72nd on the floor exercise (9.8000). She then tallied a 9.7625 on the vault to tie for 66th and she placed 84th on the uneven bars with a score of 9.1875 to end the meet.
Tsang's night followed as: vault, bye, uneven bars, balance beam, bye and she closed out the meet on the floor exercise.
For Tsang, a junior, she finished tied for 60th on the vault (9.7750), tied for 61st on the uneven bars (9.7875), tied for 76th on the balance beam (9.6375), and she ended the night with a 9.9000 on the floor exercise to tie for 18th.
The Nittany Lions are slated to return 12 members of the 2017 team in 2018.
