Husky Classic Results | Iowa State Classic | Spire Invitational


UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.
- Penn State wrapped up a weekend of competition across the country as the Nittany Lions competed at the Husky Classic, Spire Invitational, and Iowa State Classic Saturday afternoon.

In Seattle, Wash., It was a trio of Milers in action at the Husky Classic. Danae Rivers turned in a fifth-place finish in the Mile running 4:37.71 in her first attempt at the distance in 2018. Rivers was an All-American in last year as a freshman finishing third at the NCAA indoor championships. Following Rivers was Marissa Sheva who posted a personal best of 4:47.71. Billy McDevitt also competed in the Mile at the meet, running a personal best by almost four seconds clocking 4:05.29.

In Ames, Iowa, All-American Isaiah Harris was the lone Nittany Lion in action on the final day of the Iowa State Classic. Harris took to the track for the 800-meters finishing first in heat nine and second overall in the competition running a season-best 1:47.38. Harris was the top-Big Ten finisher at the meet and was second only to Kansas' Bryce Hoppel who ran 1:47.05 for the win in the heat eight.

In Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute - the site of the 2018 Big Ten Indoor Championships, Penn State wrapped up day two of the Spire Invitational.

Luke Rarig wrapped up competition in the men's heptathlon with a fourth-place finish scoring 4,644-points. Rarig posted marks of 8.57 in the 60-meter hurdles, 3.80m (12'-5.50") in the pole vault, and finished with a time of 3:09.81 in the 1,000-meters.

Obeng Marfo's mark of 14.62m (47'-11.75") placed fifth in the women's shot put, while the men's shot put featured a 1-3-4-5-8 Nittany Lion domination. Jon Yohman led the way (17.71m/58'-1.25") followed by Ben Peterson (17.31m/56'-9.50"), Morgan Shigo (17.25m/56'-7.25"), Luke Grodeska (16.90m/55'-5.50") and David Lucas (16.34m/53'-7.50").

Penn State again was at the top of the results in the women's high jump as Megan McCloskey cleared a meet best 1.73m (5'-8.00") winning on jumps against Maryland's Dallyssa Huggins who finished second at the same height. Maddie Holmberg also recorded a top-eight finish in the event clearing 1.58m (5'-2.25"). For the men, Spencer Hay (2.01m/6'-7.00") and Devin Bradham (2.01m/6'-7.00") finished third and fourth while teammate Chisom Ifedi took sixth-place clearing 1.96m (6'-5.00").

Kelsey Vieira was the top women's triple jumper at the Spire Invitational leaping out to a personal-best mark of 12.33m (40'-5.25"). Olivia Giambra finished eighth in the event with a best jump of 11.49m (37'-8.50"). Bryce Williams took the men's title with his jump of 15.50m (50'-10.25") and Darian Alston finished fourth with his best of 14.24m (46'-8.75").

Kier Miner claimed the top finish for Penn State in the 400-meters running 47.65 followed by teammate Terrance Laird who finished eighth in 48.61.

Jordan Makins (first-place), Gary Ross (fifth-place), and Joey Logue (seventh-place) represented Penn State in the top-eight of the men's 800-meters running times of 1:50.83, 1:51.42, and 1:51.68, respectively. Victoria Tachinski finished fourth in the women's 800-meters with her time of 2:09.16.

Will Henderson posted a runner-up finish in the finals of the men's 60-meter hurdles running 8.00 while Quenee Dale also posted a runner-up finish of her own in the women's 60-meter hurdles running 8.39 followed by Maddie Holmberg in sixth-place at 8.56.

Xavier Smith (6.72), Malik Moffett (6.86), Will Henderson (6.97), and Anton Porter (6.99) finished first, fourth, sixth and eighth, respectively in the final of the men's 60-meters, while Keianna Albury (7.47) and Brooke-Lynn Williams (7.60) finished second and fifth in the women's final.

Owen Wing's time of 4:07.47 was a personal-best and good for fourth-place in the men's mile.

Capping off the meet were the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays, the men's squad of Miner, X. Smith, Laird, and Ross finished second (3:12.13) while the women's relay of DeCecco, Tachinski, Bull, and Holmberg finished third running 3:43.25.

Penn State will return home for the last time this season for the Tune-Up Meet February 17 at Ashenfelter III indoor track before gearing up for the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio February 23-24.
