Cross Country Competes Well at Lehigh Paul Short Run

Men’s team finishes 13th out of 44 competing teams

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Penn State men’s cross country team, led by sophomore Brian DiCola, placed 13th overall, out of 44 competing teams, in the gold race at the Lehigh Paul Short Run on Saturday.

COLLEGE MEN’S 8K GOLD RACE

Five of Penn State’s top seven finishers set 8K PRs on Saturday, including team leader Brian DiCola. The Nittany Lions battled several Mid-Atlantic Region squads on Saturday, competing well against familiar foes.

DiCola, a sophomore, led the Nittany Lions through the line in 41st overall with a 24:14.9 8K PR, over 45 seconds faster than his previous top time at the distance. Nick Sloff (24:27.4 PR, 59th) and Jake Allen (24:28.2, 62nd) followed DiCola across the finish line for the Nittany Lions, marking the second consecutive race that this trio paced the Nittany Lion squad. True freshman Tyler Rader (24:51.9, 117th), along with Justin Healey (24:57.0, 129th) rounded out Penn State’s strong group of top five finishers.

Wingate won the men’s gold team title with 30 points, followed by Harvard (95 pts) and Utah State (109 pts).

COLLEGE WOMEN’S 6K GOLD RACE 

The Penn State women’s team ran four runners in the Paul Short Run on Saturday, with three recording 6K PRs in the race.

Lea Hatcher placed 16th overall, setting a PR with an excellent 20:30.3 mark. True freshman Ada Rand competed in her first meet in-uniform for Penn State, navigating the 6K course in 20:58.8. Carolyn Tarpley also set a PR, finishing 99th overall in 21:24.6. Katie Dallas rounded out the Nittany Lion athletes in the race with a 21:49.7 mark.
