Track and Field Concludes Weekend with Strong Showing at LSU Battle on the Bayou

Nittany Lions set nine PRs in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – The Penn State track and field teams turned out nine personal-record marks and two top-five marks in program history at LSU’s Battle on the Bayou to conclude a strong split-squad weekend Friday and Saturday in Baton Rouge.  

TOP PERFORMANCES  

Freshman sensation Ajani Dwyer collected two top-five marks in program history in both the 100m and 200m. He finished the 100-meter race in 20.55 to take the No. 5 spot in program history Friday before running a 10.27 in the 200-meter race to earn the No. 2 spot in program history Saturday.  

The dynamic throwing duo of Collin Burkhart and Nathan Williams struck again in the men’s hammer throw. Burkhart placed fifth overall with a 65.40m mark, while Williams finished seventh overall with a throw of 63.43m.  

Four Penn State athletes finished within the top 10 of the women’s 1500-meter. Kileigh Kane and Maddie Ullom earned second and third, respectively. Kane’s time of 4:13.74 was just shy of her own No. 2 program mark and Ullom’s mark of 4:13.92 replaced her No. 4 program mark. Allison Johnson finished seventh overall with a personal-record time of 4:17.15 and Ada Rand rounded out the top 10 with a mark of 4:19.31.  

The men’s and women’s teams both dominated the 800m on Saturday. Olivier Desmeules wasted no time between the NCAA Indoor Championships and his first outdoor competition of the season, recording a 1:48.14 mark in the 800m to place third overall. Allon Clay finished right behind in fourth place with a time of 1:48.24. On the women’s side, Tayissa Buchanan finished sixth (2:06.28) and Kane finished 11th (2:09.02), both setting PRs.

Women’s 200m  

  • Maddie Pitts placed 25th overall and clocked in at 24.03 to set a new PR  

Women’s 400m Hurdles 

  • Addyson White clocked in at 1:02.05 and finished in 13th place overall  

Women’s 1500m  

  • Kane finished second overall with a time of 4:13.74  
  • Ullom placed third overall at a time of 4:13.92  
  • Johnson finished seventh overall, recording a time of 4:17.15 
  • Rand came in 10th place after clocking in at 4:19.31  

Men’s 200m  

  • Dwyer finished fourth overall at a time of 20.55 to set a PR  

Men’s 400m Hurdles

  • Handal Roban set a PR of 3:50.64 after finishing 23rd overall  

FIELD EVENT SUMMARY  

Women’s Hammer Throw  

  • Gabi Deglau finished fourth overall, recording a 56.19m throw to set a new PR 

Women’s Pole Vault  

  • Victoria Atikinson tied for seventh overall with a 3.95m (12-11.50) mark  

Women’s Javelin  

  • Friedman set a new PR of 47.60m (156-02) and placed sixth overall  

Women’s Long Jump*  

  • Maddie Pitts finished 13th, recording a 5.55m (18-02.50) jump  

Men’s Hammer Throw  

  • Burkhart was .3m shy of tying his PR, finishing fifth overall with a throw of 65.40m (214-06) 
  • Williams finished seventh overall, recording a 63.43m (208-01) throw  

Men’s Long Jump  

  • Emi Erekosima finished ninth overall with a jump of 7.16m (23-06.00) 

Men’s Pole Vault  

  • Tristan McGarrah placed 11th overall to tie his PR with a mark of 5.15m (16-10.75)

Women’s 400m  

  • Johnson finished 19th overall, clocking in at 58.05  

Women’s 800m  

  • Buchanan’s time of 2:06.28 set a new PR with a sixth-place finish  
  • Kane set a new PR of 2:09.02 to finish 11th overall  
  • Ullom ran at a time of 2:09.44 to finish in 13th  
  • Rand ran at a time of 2:09.67 to tie for 16th  

Men’s 100m  

  • Dwyer finished at 10.27 to claim sixth overall, becoming No. 2 in program history in the 100m dash  

Men’s 400m  

  • Joshua Stolarski set a new PR of 47.63 after finishing 25th overall  

Men’s 800m  

  • Desmeules placed third, clocking in at 1:48.14 
  • Clay placed second, setting a new PR of 1:48.24 
  • David Locke placed 17th overall with a time of 1:49.48  

FIELD EVENTS 

Women’s High Jump  

  • Riolo finished third overall with a 1.75m (5-08.75) mark 
  • Gwen Cudmore and Katie Becker tied for ninth with a 1.65m (5-05.00) jump 

Men’s Shot Put 

Men’s Triple Jump  

  • Erekosima placed fourth overall with a 15.27m (50-01.25) jump  

Men’s High Jump  

  • Isaac Osifo placed fifth overall, recording a 2.10m (16-10.75) leap  
  • Robert Allen tied for seventh with a 2.05m (6-8.75) jump
