Penn State Finishes Fall With Strong Performance at William & Mary Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Penn State men's tennis team finished their fall schedule with a strong day at the William & Mary Invitational. The Nittany Lions won matches at five singles flights and all three doubles flights. Penn State finished the weekend a combined 16-8 in singles and 15-2 in doubles. Three members of the Penn State team were named to the all-tournament team for singles and two doubles pairs also earned the honors.

On Sunday, Penn State took on players from Old Dominion and William & Mary.

At the No. 1 singles flight, Russell Bader (Austin, Texas) took on William & Mary's Will Juggins. The senior earned the win, 6-4, 6-3. Bader finished the weekend 3-0 to claim all-tournament honors. Bader ends the fall with a 7-4 mark.

Michael Reilly (Raleigh, N.C.) competed at No. 4 singles against Old Dominion's Jonas Kuwert. In straight sets, Reilly won 6-2, 6-3. Reilly went 2-1 this weekend to finish the fall 7-4.

Freshman Marc Collado Castells (Barcelona, Spain) met Old Dominion's Keon Wiggemans at the fifth singles spot. Collado Castells claimed a straight set win, 6-2, 6-2. Collado Castells went 8-6 this fall.

Fellow freshman Nika Dolidze (Tbilisi, Georgia) earned a 6-5, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles against Old Dominion's Darragh Glavin. The freshman ends the fall with a team-leading 10 wins.

David Kohan (Sydney, Australia) and Christian Lutschaunig (Richboro, Pa.) both competed at the seventh singles spot. Kohan defeated William & Mary's Austin Davidow, 6-1, 6-3. Lutschaunig knocked off William & Mary's Zach Braig, 6-1, 6-1. Both players finish the weekend with a 2-1 mark. Kohan earned eight wins this fall, while Lutschaunig collected five.

Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y) matched up against Old Dominion's Dante Terenzio at No. 2 singles, but fell 6-4, 6-5. Despite the loss, Barry finished 2-1 this weekend to earn All-Tournament honors. Barry compiled an 8-4 mark this fall.

Sophomore Roman Trkulja (Toronto, Canada) met Old Dominion's Zvonimir Podvinski in the third singles spot. Trkulja, riding a two-match win streak, was not able to extend it to three, dropping a 6-2, 6-5 result. However, Trkulja was still named to the All-Tournament team. Trkulja also went 8-4 this fall.

In the No. 1 doubles match, Reilly and Trkulja took on William & Mary's Juggins and Aaron Chaffee. The Penn State duo claimed an 8-5 victory. The duo completed a 3-2 weekend to earn All-Tournament honors.

Bader and Barry competed at No. 2 doubles against William & Mary's Ben Guthrie and Addison Appleby. The Nittany Lion pair came out on top, 8-6. They went 5-0 this weekend to also claim All-Tournament in their first time teaming up this year.

The third pair, Kohan and Lutschaunig, knocked off William & Mary's Damon Niquet and Scott Huang in a tough battle. Kohan and Lutschaunig took the tough win, 8-7(12). The duo went 4-0 at the invitational.

The invitational concludes the fall for the Nittany Lions. They begin their spring schedule on January 24th against William & Mary. The match will start at 4:00 p.m. in Penn State's Indoor Tennis Center.
